New England Trip week 2

After our week in Maine at the family reunion, we spent another week in New England visiting family and friends. First we stopped in Rye, NH to see Jon's friend from high school, Julie. It was great to meet Julie's husband and 2 boys, Cole and AJ.

We stopped by the beach near Julie's on our way out of town. Avery loved finding rocks to show me....

After a wipeout in the sand...

A big wave snuck up on Avery and soaked her. It scared her for a minute, but at least it washed the sand off her face. And before we left she was back playing in the waves again - so she wasn't scared for long....

Next we went to visit Jon's dad in Rhode Island. Here's Jon by the lighthouse in Jamestown...

Here's Avery and Grandma Elaine...

Avery and Jon on a boat...

Grandpa "Captain Bob" drove the ferry over to Newport where we spent the day....

The fog was lifting as we went across the water. The bridge looked like it just disappeared...

Here's Avery and Jon on the docks in Newport...

This picture cracks me up....

Avery had so much fun running down this little hill...

And she was so proud of herself when she was still standing at the bottom...

Next we visited the town where Jon grew up. Jon's mom will be happy to know it is the town with America's oldest public library...

We went swimming in the pool where Jon used to splash around in his speedo on the swim team...

And we played basketball on the court Jon and his brothers used to practice on...

Avery shot some free throws...

After leaving Peterborough, we drove up to visit Jon's college friend Josh and his family at their campsite in NH. It was a really pretty spot on a great lake. We did get to do a little swimming before a huge storm rolled in. Over our whole 2 week trip, we really on had this one quick storm to deal with - the rest of the time the weather was beautiful!

Josh read to Avery and his daughter Annie...

We went for a hike around the lake. Here are the Drouin's: Josh and Jen with their kids, Annie, Jack, and Carter....

Our family picture by the lake...

The next day we drove down to Massachusetts and took the kids to see Plymouth Rock...

On our last day, Al and his girlfriend Fran came to visit and we all went into Boston to visit the aquarium and have lunch. Here's Al reading to Avery....

It was a great trip! We are going to miss everyone!

Family Reunion

We spent a week in Maine with Jon's family at the end of June/early July. We rented cabins on a beautiful lake in Maine. Jon's brother Rob lives nearby, and did a great job finding such a perfect place for all of our families to get together.

Avery got to meet her cousins for the first time! Here they are: Elena, Matthew, Sophie, Colony, Calvin, Avery, Jackson, Shannon, and Katie...

Here is Avery floating around in the lake with her dad....

Family picture on the dock...

Dinners were a big production with 30+ people. Avery's eating really well lately. She tried lots of new foods on the trip - and so far, no allergic reactions!!

Avery had fun playing in the water...

Here's Avery and Jon...

We had a birthday celebration for all the kids who have summer birthdays. Once again, Avery was amazed by the candle, and LOVED the frosting!

We took a trip to the ocean one day. Avery was a bit afraid of the waves this time...

...but the sand was yummy...

Cousin Sophie was by Avery's side the whole week. Avery was her "sponsibility" and no one else was allowed to get too close to Avery. It was adorable!

Here we are with Grandma Kathy...

Here is a picture of those of us who were still there on Friday....

Here are Kathy and her kids...

The Horne kids and grandkids...

The last sunset of the week...

Ok, i'm tired of uploading pictures today... This link should get you to our entire photo album so you can see the rest of the Family Reunion shots...

Birthday fun...

Avery had her First Birthday Party on Saturday. Grandma Connie flew out for the occasion and we had a great weekend...

Here's the party girl...

And her yummy special diet cake...

She really just liked the candle again...

Then she tried the frosting...
And LOVED the frosting! Yummm....sugar....
Here's Avery and Grandma...

And Avery and Delaney playing with a balloon...

Avery held up great throughout most of the day...but was sad to see all her friends go...

We did get one family picture before her bedtime...
On Sunday we headed to the coast. It was a bit windy, but it was still beautiful. This was the first time Avery really got to run around on the beach and play in the sand...
She loved digging...

Jon helped Avery dig a hole big enough for her to sit in. She loved it!

Art Class

Our little artist had a great time at her first creative babies class this week. We're banking on a lucrative painting career if the WNBA doesn't work out...

Happy Birthday!

Avery had a great birthday yesterday! She got dressed up for school and wouldn't put down her card from her Grandpa Bob....

It was a yummy card...

Avery's waiting to try her first cake at her party this Saturday, so last night she had a yummy allergy free cookie instead as we sang Happy Birthday to her! She was very intrigued by the candle...

Our friends and family are so generous! Avery had so much fun opening her gifts!

She loved her crown! It's hard to believe our little princess is a year old already. It has been an amazing year! Wasn't it just yesterday when we were so excited that she held her head up on her own for a few seconds?!? I'm pretty sure she'll be going off to college next week if we blink...
